The magic of Christmas lights up Varenna
The countdown to the holidays has begun, and the village of Varenna lights up with lights and charm with the opening of the Villa Cipressi Christmas Garden.
Until Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the famous botanical garden overlooking Lake Como will be transformed into an enchanted park, with light installations, Christmas melodies, and irresistible sweets.
As evening falls, the lights will transport visitors to a true fantasy realm, populated by forest animals, elves, angels, and sparkling decorations that will illuminate the villa’s terraces and stairways.
The route will lead to the gnomes’ house, where children can post their letters to Santa Claus, and continue through the botanical garden to the iconic Infinity Gate, the striking gate overlooking the lake.
For the occasion, the Veranda Bar will be transformed into a shop selling sweet treats, where you can rediscover the wonders of childhood with doughnuts, hot chocolate, and soft marshmallows. Open all day, it will be the ideal place to relax for those who want to enjoy the garden even in autumn and winter, surrounded by colorful foliage and the evergreen canopy of cypress, holm oak, and magnolia trees.
Part of the Grandi Giardini Italiani circuit, the Villa Cipressi Botanical Garden is a veritable treasure trove of biodiversity, home to a rich variety of native and Mediterranean plants and rare species such as the American agave.
Sponsored by the Municipality of Varenna, the Villa Cipressi Christmas Garden is an initiative promoted by R Collection Hotels, an Italian hotel group that oversaw the restoration of the historic villa in 2018, now an elegant four-star hotel overlooking the lake.
The Villa Cipressi Christmas Garden will be open until January 6, 2026: an event not to be missed if you want to experience the magic of Christmas on Lake Como.
