Bellagio is a town that has the power to amaze, with its breathtaking natural scenery and fascinating history, etched into its narrow streets, palaces, and squares. Preserving and enhancing the town’s cultural and landscape heritage is the philosophy behind the renovation project of the historic former Metropole, now restored to life and to Bellagio with a new identity under the name Palazzo Genazzini—a name that, for nearly two centuries spanning the late 18th to the late 20th centuries, accompanied the operations of the historic hotel, which has been documented since 1721.
Palazzo Genazzini overlooks the waters of Lake Como, occupying a privileged and central location that is deeply integrated into the daily life of Bellagio and its residents. The reopening of this historic residence on June 1 is therefore of vital importance, restoring to the town a space that has been completely renovated by Francesco Pastorelli Architetti and Studio Reveria and designed in harmony with the surrounding environment, respecting the uniqueness and historic character of the site with elegance and refinement, and in constant dialogue with city life by opening the doors to the public at the bar, the Genazzini 1788 Restaurant, and the Rooftop Bar.

The Project
The restoration and revitalization project for the historic residence now known as Palazzo Genazzini is based on an approach centered on listening and a commitment to respectfully preserving the building’s historical and architectural identity. The decision to leave the façade unchanged, retaining its original color palette, ensures continuity and recognizability within the view of Bellagio and its urban landscape, restoring the palace to its historic role within the town.
The renovation work has brought to light elements of great value, such as the stone staircase and the historic frescoes, which have been carefully restored and incorporated into the design as central features of the architectural narrative.
Natural light, the undisputed star of the show, filters through materials and surfaces, highlighting the marble, bringing out the colors of the fabrics, and accompanying the changing light of the day, making every space feel alive and constantly evolving.
All furnishings were custom-designed and crafted by selected artisans: a choice that deeply roots the project in Italian craftsmanship and a commitment to detail.
The 35 rooms, including 20 suites, overlook the lake, the historic center, and the mountains, completing an immersive experience that reinterprets luxury with understated elegance, authenticity, and a strong connection to the spirit of the place.
The bar, the Genazzini 1788 Restaurant, and the Rooftop Bar
Making the bar, restaurant, and rooftop spaces not exclusively for guests, but rather open to the city and for the city, is part of the philosophy underlying the project of exchange and dialogue with Bellagio. Palazzo Genazzini is not intended to be a sterile, exclusive place, but rather a vibrant space with a strong sense of character.
The hotel’s welcoming atmosphere is evident from the very start of the day, with breakfast served at Ristorante Genazzini 1788 from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., which is also open to non-residents. The menu features an à la carte selection that combines classic international dishes with local specialties and Italian pastries.
From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the restaurant offers a continuous lunch menu, while the outdoor bar on the square is also open, where you can continue to enjoy an Italian breakfast with coffee and pastries.
The event moves to the Rooftop Bar at 5:30 p.m., offering panoramic views of the lake. Alongside the beverage menu curated by Alessandro Grechi, a leading figure in the new school of gastronomic mixology, Italian tapas and a selection of raw seafood will be served.
The rooftop continues to host after-dinner entertainment until midnight, fostering a lively and welcoming atmosphere. During the same evening hours, the restaurant, with its more classic and formal setting, offers refined and sophisticated cuisine.
