Monte Generoso concludes an intense season and is already ready to start again with enthusiasm for a winter full of new features!
After months of success, the 2025 high season of the Monte Generoso Railway comes to an end on October 25 and 26.
After months of success, the 2025 high season of the Monte Generoso Railway will come to an end next weekend, October 25 and 26, with the usual celebration.
Thanks to the collaboration of local partners and Mendrisiotto and Ticino Tourism, Monte Generoso has attracted a diverse audience: families, sports enthusiasts, and lovers of culture and gastronomy.
Here are the highlights of the high season:
• 100-100-100 campaign: To celebrate Migros’ first century, in April the
first 100 guests each day were able to travel on the rack railway
at the price of 100 years ago, just 13 francs! An initiative that combined history and
innovation and was greatly appreciated by customers.
• FMG Open Day: On June 9, there was a huge turnout for the event
dedicated to all generations, with an exhibition of model trains, photographs, posters, and
historical accessories from over 130 years ago.
• The return of the steam train: An exciting experience that brought a piece of history back to life, selling out every time.
• Friends of Generoso: The new season ticket for families and mountain lovers
has made Monte Generoso more accessible, with over 300 season tickets sold in the first few days of its launch.
“The success of the subscription shows how important it is, especially for
families, to have a nearby and accessible place to spend their free time,” says
Carolina Russbach, Head of Marketing, Communication & Digital. “Many of the
new customers are from Mendrisiotto and eager to explore the wonders of
Monte Generoso at an unbeatable price.”
Closure and reopening events with trains running at 50% capacity
• Closing party (October 25-26): On Saturday, October 25, there will be Circo Tonino for the little ones,
and in the evening, Wine & Dine at Fiore di Pietra with good wine and delicious dishes.
• Long reopening weekend (December 6-7-8): Three days of celebration and, on Saturday, December 7,
the long-awaited Treno di San Nicolao (St. Nicholas Train) will inaugurate the winter season.
A season of growth
On October 19, Camping Monte Generoso closed the season with a 6% increase in turnover compared to the previous year, which had already stood out for its excellent results.
“Compared to 2024, without the closure of the Gotthard Pass and with more favorable weather, the railway also recorded a considerable increase of 30% in
passengers, predominantly German-speaking Swiss and Ticino residents, followed by a significant number of Italians and Germans,” explains Russbach.
Monte Generoso does not hibernate!
“Even in the cold months, Monte Generoso offers unique views and activities on weekends, holidays, and every day from December 22 to January 6, allowing you to enjoy the Christmas holidays to the fullest, always in the name of sustainability and authenticity. In addition,
we are available to organize pre-Christmas company lunches and dinners.
