“Identità Emerse”: In Lecco, the story of Lake Como’s terroir unfolds through geology, wine, and local culture

An immersive journey through landscape, geology, viticulture, and local identity: this is the essence of “Identità Emerse – The Terroir of Lake Como and Its Hills,” an exhibition on display in Piazza Cermenati in Lecco from May 8 to 17 as part of GeoCult, the Italian geosciences festival organized by the City of Lecco.
The exhibition was created with the aim of highlighting the deep connection between the geomorphological features of the Lake Como region and its exceptional food and wine products, offering visitors an experience that blends nature, agricultural culture, and sustainable tourism.
One of the key players in the project is the Consorzio Terre Lariane, which is dedicated to promoting and protecting the region’s wine production. Through the work of Claudia Crippa and in collaboration with industry professionals, including winemaker Davide Minelli and agronomist Riccardo Pozzi, the exhibition explores the agricultural heritage of the Larian area as an authentic expression of Lake Como’s terroir.
“Identità Emerse” offers an accessible and contemporary approach to help residents and visitors discover local specialties: wine, olive oil, crops, and agricultural traditions become tools for telling the story of the landscape and its evolution. According to the organizers, this heritage must be protected, promoted, and shared through new forms of local collaboration.
During the opening ceremony, attendees also had the opportunity to enjoy an immersive experience at the Lake Como Museum, accompanied by tastings of IGT Terre Lariane wines and culinary specialties from Identità Lariane, an organization dedicated to promoting the region’s agricultural products and local culture.
The exhibition is one of the highlights of GeoCult 2026, a festival that brings together science communication, the environment, and cultural identity through events, workshops, performances, and initiatives taking place throughout the Lecco area.
